Hushe is the last village of the Ghangche District of northern Pakistan. It is the highest village in the once extremely remote and impoverished valley. Hushe men began working as cooks and porters for expeditions in the 1960s. Reinhold Messner's cook Rozi Ali, is from Hushe. Now, the sons of these men have turned wholeheartedly to tourism and the Hushe-pa have developed an excellent reputation as guides, cooks and high-altitude porters.
Hushe villagers are environmentally conscious and work to keep their area nice. Hushe is no longer the poorest of villages, and its popularity as a trekking and climbing destination continues to grow. Abdul Karim of Hushe, famous as Little Karim, who carried 25KG of weight up to 8000m on an expedition on Gasherbrum II, is working with a Spanish team to build a new luxurious hotel in the village, overlooking mighty Masherbrum.
Climbers and trekkers that come all the way from Baltoro Glacier, Concordia (Pakistan) and K-2 via Gondogoro Pass, descend into Hushe village to reach Skardu District, which is an important town of Gilgit-Baltistan.The 3050 meters high Hushe village lies in the heart of Karakorum, forms one of the remotest mountain communities in the world. Where access to basic services either scarce or inadequate. Besides its rich resources the 914 natives are living a poor life due to natural severity and negligence by fellows. To face the challenges, solve the issues and transform the village a prosperous, the community initiated this landmark Organization. Since then we are working on many frontiers mainly focusing on education, health, environment and social services.
HWDO working in a district Ghanche . It has been registered with Goverenment of Pakistan at this registration number 09/GHE/ 2005. The NGO does not have at the moment any funding source and the ladies have taken a start for a sincere cause just from few thousands contributed by them. Now after the registration we will run a campaign for fund raising and bringing into circle well to do people for its economic support. To develop sustainable primary healthcare and education programmes particularly for women and children in Baltistan. Vocational training and activities for a healthy environment have become a supportive element. HWDO, soon recognized by the community, funding agencies, and government for its distinctive struggle in social change process. To continue this process we welcome your contributions from a penny to a piece of advice.
As we are working in the remote area and there was no any awareness for the education, proper health and hygiene and other related facilities regarding the needs of life. HWDO a fitting forum that seeks to empower communities especially women to become the catalyst for transforming their social, economic and political sphere into a participatory, pro-people system that is led by accountable, transparent, dedicated and honest leadership at every walk of life.
HWDO is district based grassroots level organization whose commitment revolves around concerted civic action through social movement to bring about changes for the uplift of target communities. With a great deal of passion and commitment it has been able to established education for women.
